70 Million Target Customers Affected by Data Breach: Personal
Information also involved.
In a statement released by Target on January 10, an investigation
of the Nov-Dec. data breach revealed that the stolen information
includes names, mailing addresses, phone numbers or e-mail addresses
for up to 70 million individuals. Information released by the company
last month estimated 40 million shoppers were affected.
The Niagara Falls AFFCU urges members to use caution if they receive
e-mail, mail, or phone soliciations of any kind, and especially of
solicitations that appear to be in regard to the Target data breach:
If you get an e-mail regarding the Target breach that seems official,
don't click on any links, instead go to www.Target.com/databreach.
Target is posting true customer communications.
If you get an e-mail that specifically references the Target scam
and asks you to followup by providing information by mail, e-mail,
website or phone, do not respond.
The Niagara Falls AFFCU has issued new debit cards to all that were
identified in the Target compromise. Members should continue
to monitor their accounts and report any unauthorized acitivity.
